Ben Newman, known professionally as M. Ben Newman, is an American actor, director, and teacher. He is from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and currently resides in Portland, Oregon. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 2002 and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2007.

Career[]

He started his career getting involved in theater and acting in numerous plays, first working at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. He also took part in performance art theatre at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre and the Kansas City Actors Theatre. He then started working in New York for five years, first joining Wide Eyed Productions in 2007, where his first role was the part of Aegeus in The Medea. He is still a company member and alumni artist of Wide Eyed Productions, in which he's been a part of several productions, including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and also directed an original show, A World Elsewhere! Arias in the Key of Clown.

The Pacific Northwest lifestyle and additional theatre work brought him to Portland, and he also started teaching at the Northwest Children's Theater and School in 2012. He joined the Profile Theatre in 2013 soon after, where he first portrayed the role of Morris in the production of Blood Knot, also taking part as an assistant fight choreographer. Throughout his career, teaching has been something he has absolutely loved doing; as early as 2001, even before he had received his B.A. degree, he was a teaching artist at the Denver Center Theatre Academy.

M. Ben Newman has additionally worked at the Third Rail Repertory Theatre, Portland Shakespeare Project, Shaking the Tree, and currently at Portland Center Stage. He is currently an instructor at the Portland Actors Conservatory as well. He has been a member of the Actors' Equity Association (AEA) since 2001 and a member of Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) since 2007.

Newman's first role on television was the recurring role of Jeremiah Rogers on Grimm.
