Opening Quote: "I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar..." – Of Mice and Men

Scene: Leonard Drake seems to be looking for someone as he makes his way down to the parking lot. He has a screwdriver in hand.

Leonard: You can't hide, maggot. You are going to get what's coming to you. [he walks into the parking lot] You're going to get it now. [he starts to walk around as he hears muted footsteps and some clattering] There's nowhere to go. You can't hide from me. [he hears louder clattering and goes to it] Got you.
[there is a muffled sound, some thuds, and a squish. Someone falls to the ground, dead as the screwdriver Leonard had is now impaled in their throat. The dead man is older but he is wearing Leonard's clothes. He is then dragged by a man in a hoodie all the way to the trash can outside. He is thrown inside and the man closes the lid. By morning, the garbage truck picks up the trash and the body.]

Scene: Hank, Nick, and Wu arrived at a dumpster park.

Wu: [walking to the truck] Truck was on its usual route in the southeast. Driver said the read loader got jammed. Got out to take a look, found the body.
Nick: How many stops did he make before he got here?
Wu: He's not sure. He started at 6:30 this morning.
Hank: Luckily he found it before it got to the dump, otherwise he would have never been found.
Nick: Can we roll the body?
Wu: Well, I already took photos. Evidence is pretty well contaminated, so, yeah, we can take a few liberties here.
Hank: Let's roll him. [Wu and Hank roll over the body to reveal Leonard's face. He looks young again instead of the old man look] Ooh.
Nick: [sarcastically] What do you think killed him?

Scene: Hank and Nick are at the precinct. At their desk.

Hank: Leonard Lewis Drake, age 30. Last known address--841 Southeast Long Street, apartment 201. A couple of assaults, D.U.I., and three domestic violence charges.
Nick: Sounds like your basic bully.
Hank: Yeah.
Nick: [reading from a folder] That address is on the trash truck's route.
Hank: Time for a little dumpster diving.

Scene: Nick and Hank are where Leonard got dumped.

Nick: Got some blood in here.
Hank: Time to bring in the team. [he makes the call].
Nick: [following a blood trail] More blood here.
Hank: [on the phone] Need forensics along the 800 block of Long Street. [looking at the trail too] Looks like he was dragged along the sidewalk after he was killed.
Nick: [looking inside the closed parking lot where Leonard was killed] 841 Southeast Long Street.
Hank: Leonard Drake's address. There's more blood on the ground.
Nick: Time to get the manager.

Scene: The manager, Forest McCleary, is walking Hank and Nick to the parking lot.

Forest: One space per tenant. All but two units are rented. We got 25 units. Most of the people are away at work right now, as you can...see. You know, we get more police here than I'd like to admit. But...you know, some of our tenants, they, um--[whispering] they have problems.
Hank: Was Leonard Drake one of them?
Forest: What's he done?
Nick: [who had been taking notes and walks away to look around] He died.
Forest: What?
Hank: Yeah, sometime last night.
Forest: Oh my God. Well, that's terrible.
Nick: When was the last time you talked to him?
Forest: Well, he was here last night. He was having a fight with, uh, Mason--one of the other tenants. Hey, Natalie didn't get hurt, did she?
Hank: Who's Natalie?
Forest: Oh, that's Lenny's live-in. She's a great gal. Not such a great taste in men, you know, not to speak ill of the dead.
Nick: Uh, Natalie have a last name?
Forest: Haverstraw. But she's not home. Her car's gone. That's her space. [pointing] And that's, uh, Lenny's car--the Mustang. But I guess he's not here either...anymore.
Nick: We're going to need the names of everyone in the building, and all their vehicle plates.
Forest: How did Lenny die?
Nick: He was murdered.
Forest: Ooh. Wow. I did not expect--and I'm not totally surprised, 'cause he wasn't the nicest guy.
Hank: What about Mason? The tenant who you said had a fight with Lenny?
Forest: Oh, that's Mason Snyder. Yeah, he's a lawyer, lives down the hall from Lenny. That's his car over there. [he points to a red Camaro]
Hank: We're going to need to see Lenny's apartment.

Scene: Forest takes Nick and Hank to Lenny's apartment. The apartment is a mess.

Hank: [walking around] Got tools. Murder weapon would be Lenny's.
Nick: [looking at an empty closet] Looks like Natalie left in a hurry.
Hank: Let's get her plate and APB her.
Nick: [grabbing a photo frame of Natalie and Lenny from the ground] Need to get a team in here, see if there's any blood on the rug. [looking at Natalie] Pretty. I wonder what she saw in him.
Hank: Love's a funny thing.
Nick: You must be laughing all the time. [he puts the frame down again and walks away].

Scene: Natalie Haverstraw is lying on a bed, crying. There's a knock on the door and she turns around revealing a bloody nose.

Police Officer: Police, open up.

Scene: At the precinct, Hank and Nick are interrogating Natalie.

Natalie: [still a bit upset] All I did was ask him why did he have to take that engine apart on the kitchen table.
Hank: What'd he say?
Natalie: Nothing. He just--he had been drinking, and he stood up, and he hit me.
Nick: And then what happened?
Natalie: I told him that I'd had enough, and I went to the bedroom and started packing. And then he came after me and he grabbed me and...I think he would have killed me...if it hadn't been for Marty. Um, Marty is our downstairs neighbor. He lives right below us.
Hank: [reading from a list] That would be Martin Burgess in 101?
Natalie: Yeah, yeah. [chuckling] He always heard everything.
Nick: And what did Martin do?
Natalie: He knocked on the door, and then--that's what stopped Lenny. Then I felt afraid for Marty because...Lenny started yelling at him. And then that's when Mason showed up.
Hank: Mason Snyder, who lives across the hall?
Natalie: Yeah, and then they got into it. And--and Lenny threatened to kill him.
Nick: And then where was Martin?
Natalie: He left when Mason and Lenny were yelling at each other. And then I went and I got my stuff and...Lenny tried to stop me, but Mason walked me to my car, so that he couldn't. And then I drove to Astoria, and checked into a motel and...[getting quiet] What did Lenny say happened?
Hank: Lenny was murdered last night.
Natalie: [looking at them with shock] I don't believe that.
Nick: We found his body this morning.
Natalie: Mason killed him?
Hank: We don't know.
Natalie: Oh, you think that I did it?
Nick: Did you?
Natalie: Like, how could I? I'm not strong enough.
Hank: People can do a lot of things when they're mad.
Natalie: I hated him, I wouldn't kill him.
Nick: Do you know anyone else who would?
Natalie: Yeah, like anybody who ever met him.
Hank: Why did you stay?
Natalie: At first he was...[sad] pretty great. And the longer we were together the worse it got. I don't know. I--I guess...I was just too scared to leave. [Nick looks at her trying to read her].

Scene: Hank and Nick are informing Renard about their case as they walk together.

Renard: Think she could put a screwdriver through a man's throat?
Nick: Hey, love's a funny thing.
Hank: Hey.
Renard: Any witnesses to the argument?
Hank: To guys from the building--Marty Burgess and Mason Snyder.
Nick: Martin Burgess owns a Junkyard on the east side called Marty's Junk Shop.
Renard: Mm-hmm, what about Snyder?
Nick: Personal injury lawyer.
Renard: Start with the junk shop.

Scene: Hank and Nick arrive at Marty's Junk Shop. There seems to be no one as they walk in. Nick goes to the register.

Nick: Hello?! Maybe he's in the back.
Hank: I hate places like this.
Nick: Why? It's just stuff.
Hank: No, it's people's lives falling apart--[looking around] what's left when the good times are over. It's the death of dreams.
Nick: Thanks. Now I'm creeped out. [they hear a clanging noise and go towards it. Marty is there] Mr. Burgess? [Marty looks startled]
Hank: Sorry, we didn't mean to scare you.
Nick: Detectives Burkhard and Griffin. We just want to ask you a few questions.
Marty: About what?
Hank: Your neighbor Leonard Drake. He was murdered sometime last night.
Marty: [shocked] Murdered?
Hank: According to Natalie Haverstraw, you were one of the last people to see him alive.
Marty: Well, if--if it happened last night...I guess I was. I don't really know what I can tell you. [he starts to walk around his shop while talking to Hank and Nick, who follow him] I heard another argument between Mr. Drake and Miss Haverstraw. I was afraid that he might hurt her again. [panting as if he was getting worked up from remembering the fight he overheard] I walked up and knocked on the door, but...Natalie wasn't-- [turning to Nick and Hank] is she ok?
Hank: She's fine.
Nick: What did you do then?
Marty: Nothing. I should have, but...Mr. Drake was very angry at me.
Hank: What did you think of him?
Marty: Truthfully? He was a terrible man. He scared me.
Nick: And was your neighbor Mason Snyder involved in the argument?
Marty: Yeah. He got there after I did.
Hank: Can you describe the relationship between Snyder and Drake?
Marty: I don't know. Mr. Drake was hard on everyone. I think that he must have a very difficult life to turn out so mean. [he turns into a mouse-like creature and retracts back before looking back at Nick and Hank] I felt kind of bad for Mr. Drake. And for Natalie too. I don't know what else I can tell you.
Nick: What did you do after the argument?
Marty: I went back to my apartment.
Nick: Anyone verify that?
Marty: My father. He lives with me.
Nick: Thank you, Mr. Burgess. That's all for now. We'll be in touch. [they leave].
Hank: What'd I tell you? Living with all these shattered dreams can turn your head inside out.
Nick: Let's find Snyder.

Scene: Juliette arrives home on her bike. A truck is park across the street watching the house.

[Juliette goes inside through the backdoor. She takes off her helmet and bag and, through the kitchen window, she notices that people are watching her house. She goes out to check it out and sees the woman taking pictures of the house. When the strangers spot Juliette, they drive away. Juliette watches them go and makes a mental note of the plate number: OR-734-BFU]

Scene: At Mason Snyder's office. Hank and Nick are talking to Mason.

Snyder: Leonard Drake was a complete ass. Trust me--I know an ass when I see one. I've represented plenty of them. But I didn't kill him. Yeah, we--we argued. I told him to leave her alone, um, and I told him to go to hell.
Hank: What'd Leonard do when you walked Natalie to her car?
Snyder: He yelled. [his phone goes off] Excuse me, I've got to take this. [he turns away as he answers] Mason Snyder. [chuckles] Uh, listen to me. Mr. Mancini is going to be limping. For the rest of his life, and I'm not talking emotionally. [behind him, Nick looks confused. Snyder gets a bit meaner in tone] No, he lost his leg, you idiot. [Nick watches as Snyder turns into a snake-like creature before retracting back to normal] No, no, no, no. You listen to me. You multiply that number by 20, then we've got something to talk about. [he turns around, his tone is 'normal' again] So...what else you need to know, expect I'm innocent?

Scene: At the trailer, Nick goes in and reads about Lausenschlange in a Grimm book.

Nick: 'After two days of waiting in Vienna, I confronted the Lausenschlange in a dark alley. As I approached, he attacked. Had he recognized me for who I am, he would not have been so bold. His carelessness cost him his head, which I severed neatly with one blow. [he turns a page a huffs in disgust] I sliced open his belly, exposing the horrid contents--the missing children. I'm glad I brought an end to this disgusting coward. I only wished I would have found him sooner. Crawford Grimm.'

Scene: At Monroe's, Nick is talking with Monroe.

Nick: You ever seen one of these? [he shows him a drawing of the creature he saw Marty morph into].
Monroe: A Mauzhertz. Pretty favorable likeness, actually, given the subject. [he seems to be making coffee for him and Nick].
Nick: Well, I think I saw one, and he could be involved in the murder.
Monroe: There's a reason you people never wrote about them. They never do anything worth writing about. This whole cartoon thing they got going...such a racket. [he hands him a cup].
Nick: [taking the cup] So they're harmless?
Monroe: Yeah. I mean you say 'boo' and they scurry off to their safety zones. They're very predictable that way.
Nick: What about a Lausensch--
Monroe: Lausenschlange? You saw a snake dude and lived to tell about it? Let me tell you, what you don't want to do is leave a Lausenschlange alone with a Mauzhertz. That is a-a recipe for dessert. [his phone rings. He puts his cup down] Mmm. Excuse me a second. [answering] Monroe. Absolutely, I know it well. I-I think it's, uh--I think it's an E. Howard and Company mechanism out of Boston. Yeah, I can handle that. No timepiece too big or too small. I'm--I'm sorry. Can you--can you hold a minute? [covering the phone and looking at Nick] It's a gig. I got a gig.
Nick: No, that's good. I have to go anyway. [Nick leaves].
Monroe: [writing down info] Yeah, go ahead. So what time? 12:30 tomorrow. No, thank you. Yeah, I'll see you then. [he hangs up, whispering to himself] Awesome.

Scene: Nick is home and Juliette is telling him about the earlier incident.

Juliette: [pointing at the kitchen window] They parked across the street, right over there. One of them was taking pictures of our house, the other one had binoculars.
Nick: Huh, well, maybe they were real estate agents.
Juliette: They drove off when I went out there.
Nick: [looking at Juliette questionably] You went out there?
Juliette: Yeah. Somebody was taking pictures of our house, so I want to know why. Look, I got the license plate number, so we can find out who it is. [she hands him the piece of paper].
Nick: Huh. Well, better safe than sorry. [he makes a phone call while looking at the plate number] Yeah, this is Detective Burkhardt. I want you to run a plate for me. OR-734-BFU. Yeah, thanks. [he hangs up] Look, I'm sure it was probably nothing serious. [there's a clattering outside] Stay inside. [Nick goes outside with his gun and a flashlight. He turns to Juliette who followed him] Stay inside. [he check out the trash bins, one of the lids is off, then he turns toward a rusting sound. He turns again when a ladder by the bins falls. Juliette comes out of the house to see the commotion. A raccoon then comes out behind the bin. Nick sighs while Juliette nervous laughs].
Juliette: Don't arrest him. He's just hungry.
Nick: [chuckling] Yeah, well, he's a rodent. [he puts the lid back] And he should be eating what rodents eat.
Juliette: He isn't a rodent. We're all mammals here.
Nick: [fixing the ladder] Well, I am not eating what he's eating.
Juliette: Sure you are. You just got to it first.
Nick: Ok, smarty pants. [they go back inside, and Nick's phone rings. He answers] Yeah, Burkhardt. Yeah, let me get a pen. All right, John Oblinger...643 Lovejoy. Thank you. [hangs up] Got a name and address on the truck you saw.
Juliette: So what do we do?
Nick: ok, we don't do anything. I'll have somebody take care of it. Let's go to bed. [as they leave, Juliette reads the address Nick got back].

Scene: Two men are fighting at a car repair shop.

Shop owner: [angrily] Look, it's your word against mine! And I got four little words for you--take me to court! Now get the hell out of my sight! [as he turns around to walk away, the other man--assumingly the same man that killed Lenny--grabs a tool. The Shop owner turns around, but like Lenny, the man looks older and similar to how Lenny looked before he got murdered]I thought I told you to get the hell out of my-- [there is a muffled groaned, a thud, and a squish. Then, the doors lift and the man is dragging the body of the shop owner to the nearest trash can].

Scene: At the repair shop, the police is there securing the area. Wu is telling Nick and Hank about what he knows.

Wu: Victim's name is Andrew Salazar. That's his auto repair.
Hank: Two dumpsters, two dead bodies. We may not have a motive, but we've sure got a pattern.
Wu: Lucky it wasn't Tuesday, Tuesday's trash day. We could be digging for garbage down at the dump. [walking up to the trash can].
Nick: Who found him?
Wu: Archie Wayne, one of the mechanics. First to show up this morning, said he found the place open. [Andrew does not look old anymore, he looks like himself].
Nick: Anu sign of a break-in?
Wu: No, he was dumping the trash when he found the vic. He thinks it might have been a disgruntled customer. Apparently his boss was a terror. Nobody liked him. He said, and I quote, 'I'm surprised somebody didn't stick a tire iron in him before this.' Actually, that was a paraphrase. I left out the bad language 'cause I couldn't write that fast. [Hank grins, amused].
Nick: Alright, we're going to need all the customer records from the last couple of months.
Wu: Yeah. On it. [he leaves].
Hank: If it's the same killer, maybe this victim is connected to out first vic.
Nick: And if it's not, then our killer's making some random choices.

Scene: Monroe arrives at his gig. He looks at the 'for lease' sign and looks mildly confused before he knocks.

[he sees that no one's coming, looks at the time, and sighs. Then he hears the faint sound of someone talking. He looks up and there is a woman on the phone who seems to not be paying attention].
Monroe: Hi! Excuse me, I'm here for the--[he looks away to see someone just before they punch him. The woman who was on the phone looks down and she looks like a creature. Monroe is being beat up by two men that are also creature-like. The woman is just looking as Monroe gets beat to the ground].

Scene: Juliette arrives at the house that Nick got from the license plate. In front of the house, the truck that was at Juliette and Nick's is there. A woman is playing with her two kids.

[Juliette gets out her car, and pretends to walk down the sidewalk across the street. She stays near a tree, watching. But a skater passes by and stops right behind her to grab his skateboard and walk the rest of the way. This grabs the woman's attention. When she recognizes Juliette, she looks scared].
Woman: [whispering to her kids while looking at Juliette] Ok, get in the house. [she begins to herd her kids into the house].
Kid: What?
[Juliette watches confused at the sudden change of the woman's demeanor. One of the kids goes to the window to see Juliette across the street. Juliette watches how he looks a little scared, then the woman takes him away from the window. Juliette is left confused].

Scene: At the apartment complex, there's a knock at Natalie's and Lenny's door. Natalie opens to reveal Marty. He smiles at her.

Natalie: Marty, hey.
Marty: I was worried about you. [looking to the shirt she's carrying and inside] You packing?
Natalie: Yeah, I--I can't stay here.
Marty: Oh. I don't blame you.
Natalie: [stepping out of her apartment, and closing the door behind her a bit. Quietly] I didn't--I didn't get a chance to thank you. If it wasn't for you knocking on the door, I don't know what would have happened to me. [she hugs Marty. He looks very pleased with the house, almost melting under her. She pulls away] You've always been really nice to me.
Marty: Where are you going?
Natalie: I don't know. I-I have to finish out my week at the office. And then...I'm just going to start over, someplace new.
Marty: Oh.
Natalie: Someplace else. But when I'm gone, would you do me a favor and take all of Lenny's stuff to your shop and just sell it? I don't ever want to see it again. Ok?
Marty: Ok.
Natalie: By the way, how's your dad?
Marty: About the same.
Natalie: I know it must be hard on you, having to take care of him. [footsteps].
Mason: [coming out of the apartment with box] All right. [with a smile to Natalie] Out of the way. Men at work here.
Natalie: Mason's helping me move.
Mason: Yeah, I'm just helping the little lady move. [Marty looks a bit dejected. Mason winks at him as if there is an underlaying reason why Mason is helping Natalie. They watch Mason go].

Scene: Marty is walking to his car in the parking lot. He decides to walk over to Mason's car, and looks at it longingly. Then Mason grabs him in a headlock to the ground. Mason turns into a Lausenschlange.

Mason: She's mine. And so are you. [Mason is trying to choke Marty when two people come out to their car. They don't see them. Mason turns back to normal and Marty makes his run for his car. He drives away as Mason watches him go. Marty only drives right outside the parking lot. He looks angry and scared].

Scene: Monroe is waking up. A blood vessel had popped and he's bruised all over, and he's got a bloody nose. He gets up and grabs stuff to walk back to his car tensely. He stops when he sees that his car has got the markings of the reapers, the scythe, painted in his blood.

Scene: At the precinct, Nick and Hank are at their desk.

Nick: We got something here.
Hank: What's up?
Nick: Martin Burgess.
Hank: The junk shop guy.
Nick: Had his car repaired last week--twelve hundred dollars.
Hank: We should find out where he was last night.
Nick: [setting down the report he was reading] Let's ask his dad.

At the apartments, Forest is knocking on Marty's door while Hank and Nick are there.

Forest: He moved in with Marty a long time ago, has lived with him for years. Ever since he broke his back. He's not exactly the nicest man I've ever met in my life. [seeing that Marty is not home, and Mr. Burgess can't open the door, Forest unlocks the door for Nick and Hank] Mr. Burgess, there's two policemen here, need to talk to you.
Hank: [sniffs] Is that incense?
Nick: Smells like it.
Hank: Mr. Burgess, it's the police. We're coming in. [Hank walks in and turns on his flashlight] God, a hoarder.
Nick: [looking around as well] How do you live like this? [they walk around, it looks like a labyrinth in there. They find the set up where the incense is being burnt. They sniff, cringing] Smells like more than just incense.
[they walk toward the door, and Hank flashes down to see a piece of large cloth covering the small slot of the door, trapping whatever smell is in there. Hank seems to find it disgusting as he sniffs. He opens the door, and more incense is being burnt in there. They find Mr. Burgess' dead body. He looks like the old version of every victim before they are killed].
Hank: He's been dead at least two days. There are no signs of trauma.
Nick: Except maybe to Marty.
Hank: Maybe this is what set him off.
Nick: Or set him free.
Hank: What do you mean?
Nick: Marty's 40--never been married. He's taken care if his dad all these years. Maybe the father-son relationship wasn't all that great.
Hank: And he never had a chance to deal with it.
Nick: I think he's dealing with it now.

Scene: At Mason's office. He's on the phone with someone.

Mason: Listen to me very closely. Do not take off the neck brace, period. Do not go to the gym. Do not mow your lawn. You were seriously injured by that bus. Now start acting like it. [he hangs up, and as he turns around, he is slightly startled] Oh. What the hell are you doing here? [Marty's there].
Marty: You should leave Natalie alone.
Mason: Excuse me?
Marty: [with a little confidence] I want...you to leave her alone.
Mason: [folding his hands on his desk] Are you asking to die? 'cause if you are, you came to right place. Let's get something straight--you don't tell me what to do. I tell you. That's just they way of this world. You are never going to be any more than what you are--a little rodent with a little rodent's life. [Marty seems to get angry at his words and stands straighter defiantly. Mason stands up and morphs, he walks toward Marty. Marty loses all confidence and practically throws himself to the ground scared and he turns into his Mauzhertz. Mason laughs amused and turns back to normal] You are pathetic. Birthmark loser. You are never going to amount to any more than what you are...[Marty stands up, still morphed, scared] which is nothing. [Marty turns back to normal, and suddenly, Mason looks like Mr. Burgess] Nothing at all.
[Marty suddenly grabs something behind him and hits Mason/Mr. Burgess with it. Knocking him on the ground. Marty keeps hitting 'his dad'].

Scene: Natalie is walking down a street when she sees Mason's car parked there. Then Marty is getting out of it from the driver's side with a bouquet of roses.

Natalie: [watching Marty jog up to her, confused] Marty? You brought me flowers?
Marty: Beautiful flowers for a beautiful woman. [he hands them to her and she grabs them a little hesitant but grateful]
Natalie: [titters] Thank you. That's--they're--they're lovely. Is Mason here?
Marty: He couldn't make it.
Natalie: Isn't that his car?
Marty: [looking back it before looking back at her] I bought it.
Natalie: You bought Mason's Camaro?
Marty: [grabbing her arms] I made us reservations for dinner. We should celebrate.
Natalie: [walking along with him] Celebrate what?
Marty: You're leaving, starting a new life. So am I. [he opens the car door for her].
Natalie: [as she gets in] I-I can't believe he sold you his car. He loves this car.
Marty: [thoughtfully] I was a little more than he could handle. [he shuts the passenger's door].

Scene: Forensics are at Marty's bagging Mr. Burgess. Nick gets a call.

Nick: [as he looks for clues and stuff around the room, and answering his phone] Yeah, Burkhardt?
Monroe: [at his house, tending to his injuries and drinking] We need to palaver.
Nick: [on the phone] You don't sound so good. Are you alright?
Monroe: I've been better.
Nick: [still looking for clues]I'm in the middle of something here. Can it wait?
Monroe: [holding his bruised ribs] Yeah, I'm not going anywhere.
[Wu goes into the room where Hank and Nick are looking around with the Forensics dealing with the body]
Wu: We got Marty Burgess' car.
Nick: Where?
Wu: Parked in front of an office building on grand.

Scene: The afternoon progresses to nighttime. They are where Marty's car is parked. Wu gets out of his patrol car. There are officers there, waiting

Wu: You have a 20 on Martin Burgess?
Female Cop: No, sir, just the car.
Nick: This is the lawyer's office.
Hank: What's Marty got against him?
Nick: Well, if he's killed two people, and his living with dead dad, I don't think it matters. [they go inside. They find Mason with his face bloody on the ground where Marty left him. Wu goes to check on him].
Wu: [to his police radio] Going to need an evidence team at 5431 Grand Ave. Suite 204.
Nick: If Marty's car is here and Marty isn't--
Hank: We better find that Camaro.

Scene: At a restaurant, Marty is trying to get a table.

Maître D': I'm very sorry, sir. We're completely booked. Without a reservation, there's no way we can get you a table.
Marty: [looks a little offput but then he's taking money out of his pocket and gives it to the Maître D' with discretion] I'm sure you'll find a reservation under the name of Burgess.
Maître D': Certainly, Mr. Burgess. This way. [Marty takes Natalie to their table. Now seated, having eaten and drunk wine, they are chatting].
Marty: I was thinking Seattle or maybe Vancouver.
Natalie: Really? I just thought maybe Eugene.
Marty: No. You gotta think bigger, Natalie. The only thing that is holding you back is you. You're smart, you're pretty--you can do anything you want.
Natalie: [bashful] I wish that was true.
Marty: Oh, it is. We make out own truth. Don't ever let anybody tell you what you can't do.
Natalie: What about your--your dad? Are you going to take him with you?
Marty: No. I can't. I can't live my life for him anymore. I've got to do this for myself.
Natalie: That's amazing.
Marty: [shyly] What?
Natalie: I don't know, you're just--you seem like a different person.
Marty: [bashful] Well, maybe you're just getting to know me a little bit better. [there's a clattering noise near them].
Boy: Oh, cool!
Father: Just stop it. Stop it right now!
Mother: Honey, please. Not now. [Marty turns around to see what's happening].
Father: You embarrass me. Just grow up. [he makes his son upset] Oh, oh, great, great. So now we're going to get the tears, huh? And that's going to make everything better, isn't it? [Marty looks upset about what's happening] Listen, young man, you start acting like a grown-up or I swear I will stick you in a child seat. You hear me? [Marty stands up] I asked you a question and I expect an answer.
Natalie: Marty.
Marty: [to the man] Stop it.
Father: [he turns to Marty confused and scoffs] Who the hell do you think you are? [he stands up].
Marty: Talk to him that way again, and you'll find out. [Natalie stands up too, looking at Marty].
Father: [scoffs] Get away from me. [Marty punches him, sending the man to the floor. His family stands up, worried].
Boy: Dad!
Mother: Honey?
Boy: Dad, you all right? [the man looks at Marty and now he looks like Mr. Burgess. Marty looks around and every man in the restaurant looks like Mr. Burgess].
Natalie: [taking a hold of Marty] Marty, I think we should go. Marty, come on. [as she drags him away, every one looks at him. He looks terrified to be looking at his father's face everywhere].

Scene: Marty is driving, speeding.

Natalie: I think what you did for that little boy was...actually pretty great. I had a dad like that. He scared the hell out of me.
Marty: People like that...they deserve to die. [Natalie seems a little put-off by his words. Marty beings to accelerate, scaring her].
Natalie: Marty, I think you should slow down. [he ignores her] Marty, you're going too fast.
Marty: I've been going too slow my whole life. But not anymore. Not ever again. [he runs a red light, making a cop car take notice. Soon enough, the police car's siren wails].
Natalie: Marty, Marty you have to stop. [Marty looks slightly agitated but doesn't stop] The police--Marty! Marty, please stop. [Marty doesn't stop, and the cop car gets stopped as a car comes out of parking. Natalie is freaked out] Stop the car! Just stop.

Scene: Nick and Hank are coming out with the forensics that are carrying Mason's body. Wu walks up to them.

Wu: Hey. Got the Camaro. Patrol car was in pursuit, but lost it heading Nort on 17th.
Nick: North on 17th? He's going to his shop.
Hank: How do you know?
Nick: That's his safety zone. [Nick heads to the car, Hank stops walking and looks at Nick weirdly].

Scene: Marty arrives at his shop.

Natalie: What are we doing here? Marty, I wanna go home! [he gets out of the car, and goes to open her door] Marty! Marty, what are y-- [he grabs her out of the car forcefully] Stop it! Stop it!
Marty: They all want me to change back. But I won't.
Natalie: Marty.
Marty: I like the way that I am now.
Natalie: Marty, please. [he starts to pull her toward his shop] Stop it. [she struggles but Marty pulls her. She drops her purse as she is lead inside] Marty! Stop! [Natalie looks terrified as Marty drags her into his maze of a shop. Outside, Nick and Hank arrived at the shop. They get out of the car].
Hank: [making a call] Found suspect's car at 742 Germantown Rd. Request backup. [Nick grabs Natalie's purse, and finds a wallet].
Nick: He's got Natalie with him. [they go in with their guns drawn] Marty! It's Detectives Burkhardt and Griffin!
Natalie: [shouting] I'm here! Help me! [Marty covers her mouth and drags her away. Nick and Hank follow after them. They stop and separate, Hank gives Nick a signal to keep walking].
Hank: Marty! We need you to let Natalie go. Give yourself up.
Nick: Don't hurt her, Marty. She hasn't done anything to you. [They find Marty with an almost passed out Natalie. Hank aims at him, and so does Nick. Marty looks terrified] Marty, look at what you're doing. Natalie's your friend.
Hank: Let her go!
Marty: [upset, almost crying] No. [he looks at himself in a mirror, and he looks like his dad] No, no. No. No! [sobbing, and looking into mirror next to him] No, I am not you! [he drops a passed out Natalie to the ground and slides down a tunnel he's made with his things. Hank stays with Natalie as Nick follows after Marty. While Marty is quick to go through the tunnels, Nick has a harder time as he is wider than Marty].
Nick: [coming out of a tunnel, and slightly out of breath] Oh my God. [Nick walks with his gun drawn and finds himself surrounded by doors. He walks slowly trying to see which door Marty is hiding. Marty comes out of door and tries to hit Nick from behind but Nick is faster and throws Marty to the ground, his gun pointed at Marty] We found your father. We know he's dead.
Marty: [still upset and sounding hysterical] No, he's not. He was...but he's not. You think he's dead, but...he's everywhere. No matter how many times you kill him, he's everywhere.
Nick: Do you have any idea what you've done? [whispering] I know who you are.
Marty: [crying] Oh, no, you don't. Nobody does. Nobody knows me. [he sobs] Nobody does. [he transforms into a Mauzhertz] Nobody. [he being to repeat the same word until he goes quiet] Nobody, nobody, nobody.

Scene: Nick is home talking to Juliette.

Nick: You went over there?
Juliette: I just wanted to drive by and see where they live. That's all. [she takes a wooden bowl of salad].
Nick: Juliette, I don't think that's a very good idea.
Juliette: I didn't do anything. I just parked but then I saw the woman, and I'm pretty sure it was the same woman who was in the truck outside our house. [she walks back into the kitchen to grab the wine glasses].
Nick: Well, did she see you?
Juliette: Yeah-- [Nick looks almost incredulous at her words] --and that's when it got really weird. She had two kids in the front yard, and as soon as she saw me, she got those kids into the house as fast as she could. I think she was afraid of me.
Nick: Well what did you do?
Juliette: Nothing. I just looked at her. Why would she be afraid of me? I don't even know who they are.
Nick: Well, maybe she thought that you were someone you weren't.
Juliette: [hugging Nick around the waist] I wish I knew who they thought I was. At least I know who you are. [Nick looks troubled at her words].

Scene: Nick arrives at Monroe's. He knocks on the door, and Monroe--holding an icepack to his face--opens the door.

Nick: [hissing in comprehension when he sees Monroe's bruised and beaten face] Ooh. What happened to you?
Monroe: Funny you should ask. You happened to me. Get in here. [Nick walks in. Monroe cheeks to see if there's anyone outside. He groans] Shut the door will you?
Nick: Who did this to you?
Monroe: I don't know.
Nick: I can track them down.
Monroe: Look, I don't know who these guys were, alright? All I know is if they wanted me dead, I would be dead. So...I could only imagine they were sending me some kind of message. [he takes a piece of paper from his back pocket and throws on the counter to show Nick. It's a drawing of the reaper's scythe] You ever see that before?
Nick: Yeah...Reapers.
Monroe: You start messing with the status quo, there are some people who might not be exactly sanguine about that. And what I am doing with you is definitely messing with the status quo.
Nick: [a moment of silence] I'm not going to ask for any more of your help. [he starts to walk away].
Monroe: Screw that. I'm not running. [he takes two beers out of the fridge] You ask me for all the help you need. I've never been much of a status quo kind of guy. [he sets down the beer for Nick] And next time...we'll be ready for them. [Nick hesitates for a second before grabbing the bottle. He takes off the cap and chuckles incredulously. He and Monroe cheer to their partnership.
