Jack Lambert hired Oleg Stark as a contract killer. Lambert refused to pay Stark in gold, and Stark abducted Mr. and Mrs. Lambert and their child, keeping them hostage at an old out-of-service quarry for two days, where he tormented them. Remembering that Stark preferred payments in gold, Lambert sought out the gold stash, discovered it at the quarry, and stole it.
Oleg Stark sued Jack Lambert for the thievery. The case was heard by Judge Logan Patterson, and Mary Robinson served as his attorney. A Navy officer named Vince Chilton was the juryman who handed Judge Patterson the verdict, declaring Jack innocent. Additionally, homicide detective Hank Griffin conveniently "misplaced" a piece of evidence Stark submitted to the court, in which a cleverly planned Stark-lookalike was seen in restaurant camera footage, which, had the jurors fallen for it, would have helped Stark win the case in a heartbeat.
Stark was sent from the Portland courthouse to a facility in California, but he harbored a grudge and waited for his chance to escape. His opportunity eventually came, and he escaped custody while on medical transfer, beating two guards into a coma during the process. Following his escape, Oleg Stark stole a car and made his way to Portland.
Out for revenge and blood, Stark broke into the home of Robinson. He murdered her, cut out her tongue, and placed it on a scale on her desk. He removed her watch and took that with him to his next kill, Chilton. Stark cut off Chilton's hand and placed Robinson's watch around the amputated arm. Chilton's hand was carried to the next murder scene, where Stark killed Patterson and shoved a gavel into his mouth, using Chilton's hand to hide his own fingerprints. He then disposed of the hand in the river nearby.
Next, Stark began his search for Hank. He assaulted an elderly man and drove off with his car to a parking lot near Hank's former residence, not realizing Hank had moved since then. He blew up the car by stuffing a plush monkey mirror ornament into the gas tank and lighting it, and he distracted a nearby elderly would-have-been-witness by walking her across the street.
Frustrated in his search for Hank, Stark followed Nick Burkhardt home and broke in, violently demanding to know where Hank was. Juliette Silverton arrived home in time to save Nick by tossing boiling water on Stark's face, whereupon Stark escaped.
Later that evening, with Nick hospitalized, Stark was pursued by Hank. Hank met up with Stark in an offroad clearing, where Stark beat Hank down. Hank was saved when Stark was shot by Monroe and instantly killed with a Siegbarste Gift-coated bullet shot from a Siegbarste Gewehr.
